Your shop does not only sell Christmas decorations, but decorations for the whole year. Do you have a favourite piece?
The snow globe with the Basel Cathedral. It sounds a bit sentimental, but since watching the movie „Mary Poppins“, snow globes to me are something enchanting. There’s something magical about watching the snow being swirled back and forth weightlessly in the glass. The Basel Cathedral also has something magical and majestic about it.
You have already served many celebrities like Michael Jackson and Jean Tinguely. Why is it that even world stars shop at Johann Wanner?
It is the complete package. At Johann Wanner, you don’t just get Christmas decorations. You get a story, a unique atmosphere, and not to forget the presence of Johann Wanner himself.
You have been living in Basel for 40 years. How do you manage to keep your finger on the pulse of time?
Johann Wanner has always gone his own way and has always been open to new ideas and approaches. This constant new wind is also perceived by the customers and leads to the fact that we can always win new customers for ourselves.
Nowadays, trends change very quickly. Which decoration or which style is currently popular?
Today, trends often emerge thanks to social media and the film industry. Of course, traditional Christmas is always preserved for us. But in recent years, the Scandinavian and American influence have come through more and more. But we won’t reveal this year’s trends yet. You can see them in our shop in September.
What ideas do you want to implement with Johann Wanner in the future?
Maintaining openness to new influences, and even if it means more effort, striving for the quality the name deserves. In addition, there is still potential especially in the spring and summer months.
